History & Objectives


  TThe English Department established at the very inception of the college in 1953 has been the hub of excellence through innovation. The former Principals, the dynamic Sr. Josephine, a visionary and Sr. Winifred, the architect of autonomy belonged to the English Department. Another faculty, one of the stalwarts, Mr. Kondamudi Sri Rama Murthy was an eminent writer who won the state Nandi Award and State Best Teacher Award. The former Faculty members Mrs. Julia Samuel, Sr. Adelphine, Dr.Aleyamma Mathew Dr.Mrs. V.Rajani, Mrs. Pamela Thomas laid a strong foundation to the department. The department with its dynamic faculty has trained students in acquisition of global skills based on the sound bedrock of value orientation and women empowerment and strives relentlessly towards holistic development of the learners through collaborations, extension activities and training programmes for global skills.

    The Department is currently headed by Dr.R.Madhavi, State Best Teacher Awardee in 2008 and 2013, who runs the department efficaciously with her band of dedicated faculty, Dr. D. Fathima Rani,Dr.D.D.Rajani,Mrs.M.K.PadmaLatha, Ms. BeaulaSwarupa, Ms Mani Bhagya Sri, Mrs. G. DurgaVyshnavi. .The motto of the Department is Innovation, Excellence and Skill orientation. The department collaborates with institutions and agencies to promote communication skills and provide job placements to its learners.

Highlights of Department

  1. Dr V.Rajani is Winner of National Theo Mathias Awards for Teaching Excellence and Mr K.S.R.M.urthy and Dr .R.Madhavi are State Best Teacher awardees.Mr.K.S.R.Murthy is a state Nandi Award winner for scripting “Ananda Bhairavi.”

  2. Expertise of the Dr R.Madhaviis being availed by Govt. organizations like MANA TV,APSCHE, TSWREIS, TSCHE for T.O.T programmes and training programmes of faculty and students.

  3. The Department Collaborates with institutes like Proskills and Ezee English Institute to provide the language skills to the learners. The Department is equipped with State-of-Art Language Labs operational with contemporary softwares like Author Plus and Clarity English to provide virtual training in Functional English, Accent, Pronunciation and Soft skills.

  4. Unique evaluatory methods like CSS English Oral Practical Tests are in practice in order to reinforce the proper articulation of the English Language, Presentation skills and employability skills of the learners.

  5. The department conducts meaningful Extension activities with reputed educational institutes for the final year students to give them hands-on-experience of Innovative academic interface in Language and Literature in collaboration with Schools of Eluru.

  6. The department provides Add–on training in IELTS in collaboration with Flair Consultancy facilitating studies overseas in Canadian University to expand the horizons of the learners to find their opportunities abroad.

  7. Bridge course in English every year is provided by the departmentto optimize the language skills of the freshers to mainstream them with the curriculum ahead.

  8. All the faculty are well versed in generating learners centric modules, PPT’s, evaluator exercises, Podcasts and other related materials for LMS of Collegiate Education.

Objectives of Department

  1. To equip women learners with tools of communication skills for excellence in careers and higher education.

  2. To foster a spirit of enthusiasm in learning communication English for different contexts and purposes.

  3. To enable students to be able to develop confidence in using the English language to speak with clarity, write effectively, record and reflect on issues pertaining to the contemporary world.

  4. To enable reviews of literary pieces & inculcate the reading habit.

  5. To promote confidence in the learner to face the varied occasions of using language for personal and professional growth.

  6. To facilitate articulation and histrionic skills in the language learner.

  7. To encourage creative use of language through innovative Project Study, assignments, Short -film making, book , author and movie- review.

  8. Field trips to places of scenic, historic and archaeological significance to provide ample scope for reviews and projects on places visited.

  9. To promote innovation in language usage through “Creative Writing” a course which taps the talent potential of budding poets and authors.
