Objectives

       The Chemistry Department pledges itself to encourage in the broadest and most liberal manner, the advancement of science and particularly chemistry in all of it’s branches through education, research, and service missions. The department aspire the values which are based on the highest professional and academic standards in terms of personal growth and satisfaction offered to staff and students, growth and excellence in the work culture, teamwork that is based on respect, trust and integrity, and innovation to promote growth and value to research sponsors.

1. To make the department a thriving centre of excellence in teaching, curriculum development, cutting-edge research and popularizing Chemistry.

2. To inculcate research culture among students and faculty through national and international collaborations.

3. To attain worldwide recognition in Chemistry research and teaching

4. Strives to contribute to industry and research laboratories addressing the problems of society

5. To equip and enable students with employable skills in the field education

History of the Department:

* The Department of CHEMISTRY is the biggest and oldest department in the college.

* PUC course introduced in the year 1956 with the Science section and eight students

* A momentous leap taken by the Department of Chemistry with the launch of BSc degree course and expanded it’s horizons in 1958 with Mrs.G. Savithri as head of the Department.

* In the year 1978 UGC sanctioned the chemistry department two projects

* Major Research Project (Interdisciplinary) and the title of the project is “The study and analysis of various aspects of water in the respect to portability”

* Minor Research Project and the title of the project is “Adulteration of food stuffs with special references to oils”.

* In the year 1985 Restructured course of Nutrition & Dietetics introduced at B.Sc. degree level with chemistry as one of the core subject

* Medical Lab Technician course was introduced with Chemistry as one of the subject of Intermediate course in the year 1989.

* A new course at degree level, Chemistry along with Microbiology and Biochemistry was introduced in the year 2000.

* M Sc Organic Chemistry course commenced from the year 2005 by the able initiation of Dr .Rev.Theresia Cherian, Principal of the college and with the supervision of Mrs. A V Subbayamma, Head of the Deparment of UG Chemistry

* Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Chemistry a new restructured course launched at degree level in the year 2006.

* In the year 2018, MCCs course started at degree level with Chemistry as core subject.

* At present the department is offering 6 UG courses and one PG course.

* The department is equipped with advanced research facilities and 05 Doctoral faculty at present

* The Dept has a Research Centre recognized by Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in 2009, and also by Adi Kavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry in 2017.

* At present 03 members of our faculty got guide ship for guiding M.Phil and Ph.D Scholars.

* The department participates in the extension activities of the college like Environmental Protection Programmes (Ozone day) etc.

* Some of the faculty are members of BOS committees for colleges under Adi Kavi Nannaya University and other Autonomous Colleges.

* The meritorious students produced from our Department are well placed in India and abroad and enhanced the prestige of the College.

* The department conducts National & International Seminars / Work Shops /Conferences / National Science Day celebrations /Lab to School programmes to enrich the knowledge of the students.

* It has experienced a remarkable development and has grown into one of the topmost national teaching and research centers in Chemistry. As a pioneer of academic deliberation and research activity, the department has greatly contributed to produce talents who are leading the national and global scenario.K

The Chemistry Department envisions that it will be recognized by institutions of higher learning for excellence in teaching, mentorship of students, and innovation in research in chemistry to attract and enable the students to build their future contributing to the development of the Nation parallelly.
