Department Introduction

Department of Commerce was established in 1971 with an aim of preparing Women entrepreneurs and young Managers for the development of healthy and efficient business world. Gradually the department expanded in strength of students and courses. The autonomy gave extensive freedom to the enthusiastic faculty members who were young with bubbling innovative ideas. With their initiative, several new courses were introduced breaking the tradition of five decades old subjects and syllabus.

It is very interesting to note that the course structure of 4+4+7 subjects with Quantitative techniques, Business Communication, Management of Small Scale Industries, Taxation Merchant Banking etc were introduced during 1987 to 1995 and surprisingly the same structure and papers were introduced by the common core Commerce course structure of Andhra Pradesh , after 13 years of our attempt. A new course B.Com Finance was introduced in 2014-15. This course equips students with the primary knowledge level aspects in Finance subject and who join this course can become capable of understanding and going further at their Post graduate level Finance papers.

Curricular development has been being done continuously, to impart skill based knowledge, to make the course structure more relevant to the changing Job market forces, to provide basic training to start own business, to give work experience through various live projects, to exposure through different assignments and project works. The unique achievement in the curricular history of the department is that the department redesigned the course structure from 3+3+6 papers to 4+4+6. After introducing the new papers, the common core of combined A.P also introduced the same after 13 Years of our attempt. Another unique feature is making flexibility of giving work experience to advanced learners in the Bank, Department Library and stores and conducting remedial classes to slow learners in small groups. Special attention is being paid to those who came from Telugu medium and separate study material is being provided to them. For advanced learners specific text books are prescribed.

With regard to achievements of staff, Dr.C.Satyadevi, best teacher awarded by A.P state Government, published 6 text books and for two books revised additions were also issued by S.Chand&Co. New Delhi, they are Quantitative techniques, Banking and Financial Services. Three text books were listed in Amazon and published two monographs.
