Botany department organized a plantation programme along with Eco-club and Agriculture dept on the eve of World environment day on 5th June 2024. Rev.Dr.Sr.Mercy.P, Principal, Rev.Sr.Maria Christia, Vice Principal, Rev.Sr.M.Susheela, P.G.Director and Controller of Examination and all the Staff Council members, Agriculture and P.G students planted 15 Water Apple plants in-front of the seminar hall and near the Home Science block.
Botany department organized a practical training programme to Botany short-term internship students to Vanantharam, Addatheegala mandalam on 10th to 12th June 2024, East Godavari Dist. 9 BZC Botany students were attended. The main aim of this short-tern internship project is to know the preparation of herbal medicines and their applications to cure various diseases. They were divided into two groups, collected raw materials from vanantharam and surrounding forest areas and prepared Herbal medicines like Asthma care and Kuchala churnam under the guidance of medical practitioner Mr.G.Bullayya. Students visited the nursery situated in the vanantharam foundation and enriched the knowledge about medicinal plants. Then went for nature study in Maredumilli. By visiting the foundation of vanantaram, students upgraded their knowledge on herbal therapy. Mrs.G.Rani accompanied the students.
16th July to October 2024: QR code setup for plants with in the college campus - As a part of assignment Botany department gave QR Code preparation for plants within the college campus by 60 students from II and III year BZC. Students prepared QR codes for available plants in the college campus.
Botany department along with I year multidisciplinary students participated actively participated in the paddy transplantation in St.Ann’s campus paddy fields on 1st August 2024. Sr. Pallavi has been started the transplanting of seedlings then followed by Dr. B.B.R.G. Vijaya Lakshmi, HOD Botany and Agriculture and faculty member of Agriculture. Along with the agriculture student's various other department students like B.com. Computers, BZC students were voluntarily participated in transplanting of seedlings. Nearly Around 100 students have actively taken part in Transplanting. This was an amazing and enjoyable activity. These types of activities keep the students active, encouraged, and confident. They also gain practical awareness.
In collaboration with Agriculture dept, Botany department organized Parthenium eradication programme in the college campus to make Parthenium free campus on 20th August 2024. 33 students of III BZC are participated. It affects livestock by reducing their appetite, feed intake, different allergic conditions thereby decreasing milk yield, causing deleterious health. In human being, it causes skin irritation, allergies, dermatitis, eczema, stomach pain, itching etc. In this regard, the awareness programs focused on eradication of the weed from the human habitations for a better health. Dr. B.B.R.G.Vijayalakshmi, HOD of Botany and Agriculture also spoke on the occasion and highlighted that such awareness activities are very important to manage and control of the invasive weed. She highlighted the importance of the topic and gave a brief overview about the parthenium weed.
To promote safe, chemical free and organic vegetable production, Department of Botany, along with III BZC students reestablished the Theresian Organic Kitchen garden near the community college. Half acre area was cleaned by removing the weeds. Then they made each plot as furrow and rows. Each plot was allotted to 4members. Students sowed Gongura, Amaranthus, Spinach, Fenugreek the seeds of Long beans beside the rows.100 saplings of Brinjal, Tomato, Chilli, Lady’s finger and Cluster bean were planted in the organic kitchen garden.
Botany department organized a visit to Mushroom cultivation unit to III BZC students on 6th September in our college campus maintained by Agriculture department. Mr.Y.Sathish and Ms.K.Sravani, Agriculture faculty explained the process and cultivation techniques of Oyster Mushroom. They explained all the steps involved in mushroom cultivation like compost preparation, filling of compost, sowing mushroom spawn, process of casing, and finally harvesting of crop. Mushroom cultivation is an economically feasible biotechnological process for the conversion of various lingo-cellulosic wastes. In this visit, the students gained practical experience and learned how to grow mushrooms in controlled environments.

Botany department organized inter-cultural operations in Theresian Organic kitchen Organic kitchen garden on 13th September 2024. III BZC Students cleaned the rows and furrows by removing the weeds to control the spreading of diseases for healthy growth of vegetable plants. Add ghanajeevamrutham to soil to increase the fertility.
Botany department celebrated Triple celebrations in Ch.S.D.St.Theresa's College for Women (A), Eluru on 30th September 2024. We have celebrated the feast of St. Theresa the patroness of our college and also celebrated the birthdays of Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The triple celebrations added colours to the college campus in which the life of St.Theresa, Gandhi, and Lal Bahadur Shastri were depicted. The program started with the meaningful prayer and the sisters of St.Ann's, Dr.Sr.Mercy, the Principal, Sr.Maria Christia, Vice Principal and Sr.Sussela, the control of examinations and P.G.Directress were attended to the programme. Later, All the Sisters and Heads of the Departments were invited on to the stage to pay tributes to the portraits of St.Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Father of our Nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri, second Prime Minister of India. The life of St. Theresa and her contribution to the society by becoming a Nun at the tender age of 15 years is depicted beautifully by the students of III BZC. Sr. Suseela gave a message and educated the students about the virtuous life of St.Theresa and advised the students to walk in the footsteps of St.Theresa. The final year students performed a dance for medley of patriotic song in a memory of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Later HOD.of English Dr.D.Fathima Rani, enlightened the students by focusing on the characteristic features of the three noble personalities and motivating them to have noble qualities possessed by three great personalities. Management sisters were greeted by the staff club members with the fruits. Finally, the program came to an end with vote of thanks.
As a part of Botany assignment II B.Sc Minor Botany and III BZC students created QR codes for plants within the college campus. QR codes can be used to identify plants and provide detailed information about them. This information can include the plant's scientific name, family, local name and importance.
