History of the Department

The Department of Hindi & Telugu caters to the language learning needs of student diversity of the college who pursue their studies at Ch.S.D.St.theresa’s College from different parts of the country. Main Languages taught are Telugu, Hindi and Sanskrit as second Languages. Students have facility to opt for Tamil and Urdu also.
Department of Telugu is one of the oldest departments of the Institution and was started in 1953. Telugu , the language of land is as fertile as the lush green, West Godavari Dist. From the time of its inception, the department has been playing a very important role in keeping up the culture and traditions of land.
The Department was adorned by eminent personalities like Sri. Samavedam Janaki Rama Sharma, Mrs. Utukuri Suhasini, Mrs. Sk Rahiman, Dr. Mrs. K. Raghavamma, Mrs.S.T.V.Andal, Dr.Mrs. P.Bhagyalakshmi, Dr.Mrs. N.Tripura Sundari from 1953 to 2018.
The Department of Telugu aims at making the students proficient in LSWR skills.Language being the carrier of culture , department upholds responsibility of inculcating values, promoting in sustsiing the culture of the land through the Departmental club “Sarada Manjeerm”. Production of stage Craft such as “Golla Suddulu”, “Veedhi natakalu, “Hari Kathalu”, “Burra Kathalu”, “Ashtavadhanam” have been a regular part of the department activities. The Department also produced innovative game cards in Telugu grammar and song Cassettes on Folk Songs, Exhibition of Telugu literary forms Kavi darpanam.
Hindi is our National Language, Official language and it also respected as a Link language. In India Hindi is very useful and powerful language in acquiring central Government Jobs and useful to move freely within the various parts of India as a part of profession or as a pleasure or pilgrim trip. As a link language, Hindi plays a vital role in promoting National Integration. The department of Hindi was established in 1962. Since then, besides teaching and learning Hindi as a second language, the department extends its services to curricular, co..Curricular and extra curricular activities of the Institution. It was headed by eminent educationalists like Mrs. Bhanumathi, Mrs.Renuka Rao, Mrs.Sarala Mishra, Mrs.Ume Salma from 1989 to 2021. From 2021 it is headed by Dr.Ch.V.Mahalakshmi.
The department of Telugu & Hindi aims to enable the students to enjoy the essence of language and Literature, to develop communicative skills, and inculcate the rich culture and heritage through the great Indian Literature. The department attains High results every year. Remedial coaching is given to the students to attain good results.


Objectives of the Department
  • The main objective of the Department of Indian languages is make students proficient in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills .
  • Department of languages imparts an Add On Course in story telling called – “ Katha Kathan “ to hone narrative and story telling skills in Telugu and Hindi which are useful for their future jobs.
  • To impart basics of Journalism and Translation skills.
  • To inculcate values and traditions and to sustain culture of the land throughout.
