On 20th June 2024,Department of Chemistry organized a guest lecture cum workshop on Analytical determinations using UV-Visible spectrophotometer and HPLC for the subject project students. UV-VIS spectrophotometer and HPLC are the instrumental techniques used for chemical analysis i.e qualitative as well as quantitative analysis. These techniques have several applications for a large number of compounds. Dr. K. Nagaraju, Professor, Sir CR Reddy College of Pharmaceutical sciences, Eluru, enlightened the students regarding the construction, basic principle involved, the preparation of sample and analysis using UV visible spectrophotometer and HPLC. He demonstrated the working of instruments and all the students had excellent hands-on experience which enabled 27 students to present the Subject project excellently. The students took active participation and involved effectively in the workshop. The workshop enabled the students for the estimation of different drugs in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms using UV-Visible spectrophotometer and HPLC.
I B.Sc, Chemistry Major students took part in Community service project and they were guided by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry. The title of the CS Project is “Know your village Health and Hygiene” . As the students are involved in the survey of the community, they got an idea on the overview of the community and the problems in their area. They created awareness regarding the health and hygiene and the remedies. 11 students of I B.Sc, Chemistry Major students completed the CS Project Viva- voce on 28th June, 2024.
26 students of II B.Sc were guided by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry for the Summer short term internship. Six projects are taken up. The title of the project is “Estimation of drugs in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms by Using UV-Visible Spectrophotometer and Estimation of drugs in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms by Using HPLC. students learned the construction, basic principle involved, the preparation of sample and spectral analysis using UV visible spectrophotometer and the method development and validation of different drugs by using HPLC. This internship make the students to develop real time technical skills, managerial skills and communication skills along with skills related to the Subject Project . Subject project Viva"was on 29thJune 2024.

The Department of Chemistry club FOCUS celebrated ozone day on September 14th 2024. The theme of world ozone day 2024 is “Montreal protocol: Advancing climate actions”. The main aim of this celebration is to aware and alert the students community regarding the importance of Ozone layer. The ozone layer , a fragile shield of gas protects the earth from the harmful portion of UV rays of the sun , thus helping preserve life on the planet Different competitions were conducted on the topic “Ozone for Life”. Students actively participated in 1. Power point presentation , 2. Elocution 3. Poster painting 4. Skit and 5.Quiz competitions on the eve of ozone day. The faculty of chemistry and students participated in the program.
Dr.V.Nagalakshmi gave a lecture on Sustainable Development through Chemistry-Novel ideas to intermediate students, the budding scientists of Ch.S.D.St,theresa’s College for Women(A), Eluru. Dr.V. Nagalakshmi, Mrs. K.J Subhashini, Ms.N.Madhavi and Ms.Susmitha, her department members made the students to do skit on role of chemistry in day to day life, branches in chemistry, opportunities in chemistry, hazardous chemicals impact on human life styles, chemical accidents. They emphasized on sustainable development goals, green chemistry approaches. At last students end their program with a strong desirable goal as everyone in our country to follow environmentally friendly practices and move towards happy life. Students motivated their juniors through dance. Students very enthusiastic and express their zeal through feedback. 828 students along with Chemistry faculty participated in the programe.
